The diversification of finfish
species, activities and productions has been an important contribution
to ensuring the sustainable development of aquaculture during last
thirty years. Current finfish aquaculture, including extensive and
semi-intensive pond culture and intensive culture utilising different
techniques, has been an important source of fish for the table market,
restocking, ornamental trade and raw material for the agrifood and
pharmaceutical sectors. Aquaculture production has continually responded
to and satisfied demands of local market requirements worldwide.
The workshop will address the topic of
diversification of inland aquaculture as a tool for expansion of the
sector, responding to an ever changing and more consumer aware market.
The workshop will address both traditional and modern methods of
production of a range of farmed species (such as cyprinids, percids,
sturgeons, salmonids, catfishes, eel etc.), exploring farming technology
and products. Main topics of the workshop will be focused on: biological
background of aquaculture, fish domestication, genetic improvement,
broodstock management, reproduction control, gamete and larval quality,
feeding and nutrition, sustainable and environmental friendly
production, application of molecular techniques, markets and economical
analysis.
Workshop venue: the ancient town of
Písek was founded on the River Otava by Bohemian kings in the 13th
century. Its so-called Euro Promenade leads from the famous Stone
Bridge, which is the oldest remaining bridge in the Czech Republic,
below which the buildings that make up the well-known vista of the town
are located. The town is dominated by the remaining wing of the former
royal castle, which today houses the museum and the renovated building
of the Malt house (where the workshop will take place).
The workshop should provide a meeting
place for all involved in the above areas of aquaculture research and
production. We hope that the workshop will be a real opportunity for an
in-depth exchange of experience between scientists and producers when
participation of fish producers from across Europe will be especially
supported.
