Complex system: system that consist from mutually connected parts, these parts as a whole have one or more features that are clearly visible from the features of the individual parts. This characteristic of the system is called emergence and it is valid for any system.
Why the Institute of complex systems: The complex systems can be found all around us. The examples of complex system can be the anthill, human economy, social structures, nervous system, cells a living organisms or energy and telecommunication system. The rediscovered trend is the knowledge of these systems. We have to combine methods from different scientific areas to know these systems. It is necessary to measure the system (realize the controlled experiment), mine the knowledge using data processing, determine the system behavior description, make the decisions and check the decisions using new experiments. These the way how we can understand to the complex systems, make a forecast of the behavior and control them.
Aims of the institute:
• basic and applied research in natural systems
• multidomain education of students
• spreading of the knowledge in the field of controlled experimentation
• application of the knowledge from mathematical, cybernetics, physics and artificial intelligence in the biology
• cooperation with the foreign and domestic research centers
• cooperation with companies – knowledge transfer
Activities:
• basic research of the natural systems using physical, mathematical , biological, chemical and other exact methods
• supervising of the thesis and other works of the students from University of South Bohemia
• support of the innovation to the practice
• organization of conferences and scientific meetings
• research on demand
• leasing of the experimental equipment
• consulting and training activities
