Since 1994, when the first workshop has been held at Ohrada,
Czech Republic, its organization became a regular tradition. The second
meeting of tench scientists with tench farmers was held in Badajoz,
Spain in 1997, the third one in Machern, Germany in 2000, the fourth one
in Wierzba, Poland in 2004 and the fifth one in Ceresole d´Alba, Italy
in 2008. For 2012, the famous banner with signatures of all participants
as a symbol of workshop organization returns to the Czech Republic.
The workshop traditionally addresses all
aspects of tench biology and farming (genetics; physiology; embryology;
artificial reproduction and nursing; broodstock management; feeding and
nutrition; farming technologies; tench diseases, parasitology and
immunology; production, processing and product quality; logistics,
marketing and economics; tench as a model for various studies, etc.).
Proposals of new topics are welcome. The workshop will consist of oral
presentations in sessions, of a poster session and of an excursion to
the South Bohemian region to visit a fish hatchery, a traditional pond
aquaculture facility, as well as some neighbouring historical castle or
monument, to mix business with pleasure.
Social programme will involve a welcome drink, a workshop party and a
guided tour round the old town of Písek.
Workshop venue: the ancient town of
Písek was founded on the River Otava by Bohemian kings in the 13th
century. Its so-called Euro Promenade leads from the famous Stone
Bridge, which is the oldest remaining bridge in the Czech Republic,
below which the buildings that make up the well-known vista of the town
are located. The town is dominated by the remaining wing of the former
royal castle, which today houses the museum and the renovated building
of the Malt house.
The workshop should provide a meeting place for all involved in the
above areas of tench research and production. We hope that the workshop
will be a real opportunity for an in-depth exchange of experience
between scientists and producers. Participation of MSc. and Ph.D.
students, as well as of tench producers from across Europe will be
encouraged by lower rates of the registration fee.
Date: The workshop will be opened on Monday, September 17, 2012.
Termination is anticipated on
Thursday, September 20, depending on the number of registered
participants with presentations.
