Main points of study

Study

Study in the doctoral study programme is based on the individual study plan. The departmental board usually orders a student to attend to 7 subjects on offer, based on the focus of the student's dissertation and the recommendation of the admissions committee. The tutor and the student can add up to 2 additional subjects.

All the students take exams in English (FCE, TOFEL or IELTS - min 5,5).

International experience

The PhD student shall spend at least three months in a foreign department as an educational stay during the studies.

The student must participate in the international conference.

Professional practice

Professional practice is an optional activity (1 credit for every 5 days of practice, max. 20 days of practice).

Practice consists in completing internship at professional workplaces (operational, educational and research) that carry out activities that are in accordance with the objectives of the study and the graduate profile.

Teaching

An individual study plan must also include at least 90 hours of pedagogic activities in the relevant field during the entire period of study.

Each student of the third and fourth grade is obliged to manage projects at summer schools.

Each student shall assist as a consultant of at least one bachelor, master or dissertation thesis during the study.

Dissertation

A doctoral student at the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters  (hereafter student) systematically works on the topic of his/her dissertation (hereafter DW) under the supervision of the supervisor (s) and consultant for the entire study period (1. - 4. year).
At the beginning of their studies, students elaborate a literature review to the subject of their dissertation in English (SS 1st year of study).
Every year until PhD thesis defense student shall present his/her progress and dissertation results in the seminar (1. - 4. year).
The student has to publish at least a part of his/her dissertation as the first author in a scientific journal, which achieved at least once during the last three years before accepting the article for publication the impact factor of 0,4 or higher.
Moreover, the student must have published another article under conditions identical to those above as the first author in each case.
The student must participate in an international conference.

Combined form of study

Students of the combined form of study have the same obligations within the study as students of the full-time form, except for:

  • the obligation to participate in an internship abroad,
  • regular seminars for doctoral students (obligation to present dissertation progress remains at least once a year),
  • pedagogical and other educational activities and
  • professional experience.
