Genetic Fisheries Center

About the Unit

The Genetic Fisheries Centre (experimental facility / hatchery) is part of the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology in Vodňany. Its main area, covering a total of 20 hectares, is located between the Velká Podvinice pond and the Okrouhlice pond system. It also manages additional ponds for production purposes, including Dolní, Velký Ústavní, Malý Ústavní, and the experimental ponds within the FFPW USB Experimental Facility.

The Genetic Fisheries Centre is equipped with a multifunctional seasonal fish hatchery and tank facility, which is used not only for conducting experimental activities but also for producing fish for commercial purposes, primarily sac-fry of common carp, tench, herbivorous fish species, and sturgeons.

The main building of the facility houses experimental and rearing systems for younger fish categories.

The Laboratory of Germ Cells is located on the upper floor of the building.
