Laboratory of Reproductive Physiology

For Students

Courses Taught

Academic and research staff of the laboratory provide teaching for both Czech and international students in the following courses:

  • Biology of Cartilaginous Fish
  • Fundamentals of Cell Biology
  • Reproductive Biology of Fish
  • Fish Reproductive Physiology
  • Basics of Scientific Communication

Qualification Theses

Our laboratory offers long-term support for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. theses, as well as postdoctoral positions in reproductive physiology. During their studies, students gain hands-on experience with a wide range of laboratory methods, including:

  • microscopy (light, video, and high-speed)
  • immunocytochemistry and fluorescence microscopy (in particular the observation of ongoing intracellular processes)
  • metabolic analyses (e.g., ATP, ADP) and oxidative phosphorylation
  • image processing, sperm motility analysis (CASA), and flagellar movement analysis
  • assessment of cellular damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS), antioxidant enzyme activity, and DNA/RNA integrity
  • osmoregulation and cell volume measurements
  • artificial fertilization procedures
  • gamete cryopreservation
  • basics of proteomic and lipidomic analyses
  • patch-clamp techniques for studying ion channels and cellular signaling

“We guide students toward precise hypothesis formulation and work with reproducible data.”

Career Paths of Our Graduates

Throughout its existence, our laboratory has provided a professional and research environment for numerous students who now hold key positions in Czech and international research and educational institutions, including our own institute and faculty. With the consent of our graduates and without indicating academic titles, we may list:

Assistant Professor at Department of Animal Biology, School of Biology, College of Science, University of Tehran

Together with my students, we investigate biology of reproduction from basic science to evolutionary, applied and health perspectives in the Reproductive Biology Lab

Assistant Researcher, Northwest Women's and Children's Hospital, China

“I continue my research on fertility preservation for prepubertal boys and human reprodictive science from the perspective of glycosylation.“

Ph.D, Associate Professor, Marine College, Shandong University

„My major research topics are focusing on the distribution characteristics of pollutants in aquatic environment, the potential toxic effects and molecular mechanisms of pollutants on aquatic organisms, and ecological restoration.“

Scientific Researcher, Laboratory of Aquaculture Genetics, College of Animal Science and Technology, Shandong Agricultural University

“I am currently engaged in fish breeding research, focusing on disease resistance and growth traits, and exploring the epigenetic mechanisms underlying these processes to promote sustainable aquaculture development. The experience from our lab continues to guide and inspire my research.”

Postdoctoral Researcher, Sichuan Agricultural University, China

“I continue my research work in the field of fish reproduction, with a special focus on short‑term sperm storage and molecular biology.”
