The Rožmberk fish harvest is approaching

The traditional harvest of the largest Czech pond, Rožmberk, will take place this year from October 17 to 19, 2025. In addition to demonstrations of fishing crafts and the sale of fresh fish, visitors will also be offered an experiential and educational program by the Faculty of Fisheries and Water Protection of the University of South Bohemia, which is being developed in cooperation with the South Bohemian Region.
The aim of the program is to present fish farming and fish breeding in South Bohemia in an engaging and interactive way. Visitors will learn about the traditions and current practices of fishing, see models of fish, amphibians, and other aquatic organisms, and try out various fishing skills. The program is intended for the general public, especially children and young people.
"The Rožmberk fish harvest is one of the most beautiful traditions in South Bohemia, and we are glad that, in addition to the art of fishing, it offers something extra—the opportunity to discover the colorful and interesting world hidden beneath the surface of our ponds. Children learn through games, and parents often take away new knowledge and experiences. It is this combination of tradition, nature, and education that makes the Rožmberk fish harvest an exceptional event," said David Štojdl, Deputy Governor of the South Bohemian Region for Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.
Two parts of the program offer both knowledge and entertainment:
- The information and demonstration section will introduce fish farming, the history of fishing, hydrobiology, and ecological contexts. Expert lecturers from the Faculty of Fisheries and Water Protection at the University of South Bohemia will provide explanations and demonstrations.
- The educational game section, "How a Pond Works," where children complete fun tasks at several stations – putting together fish puzzles, observing aquatic organisms under a microscope, or catching wooden fish. After completing the tasks, they can take home a small reward.
We cordially invite all interested parties to visit the joint stand of the South Bohemian Region and the University of South Bohemia.
