Junior University at FROV JU welcomed students interested in science
In mid-April, the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the University of South Bohemia in Vodňany hosted another edition of its Junior University programme. A total of 21 students from Gymnázium Vodňany, Gymnázium J. V. Jirsíka in České Budějovice, and SRŠ VOŠ VHE Vodňany took part in the five-day event.
The students had a unique opportunity to experience work in a real scientific environment. Under the guidance of faculty experts, they worked on their own research projects both in laboratories and in the field, while exploring current research topics related to aquatic ecosystems.
As part of the programme modules, they focused on topics such as:
- the effects of pollutants on aquatic organisms,
- fish embryonic development and work with germ cells,
- native and non-native crayfish species,
- the impact of wastewater treatment plants on the environment,
- and aquaponics as a modern and sustainable approach to food production.
The programme also included excursions to specialized facilities, laboratory experiments, and lectures by both international and Czech experts. Throughout the week, students developed not only practical skills but also gained insight into scientific methods, data processing, and the presentation of research results.
At the end of the Junior University, students presented their projects to an expert committee.
The Junior University at FROV JU has long supported talented and motivated students interested in natural sciences, ecology, and water protection, offering them the opportunity to experience science first-hand.
