"Strakovka Lives Through Agriculture" Showcasing Czech Farmers and Fisheries

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the first thematic public event entitled “Strakovka Lives Through Agriculture” took place in the gardens of the Straka Academy, focusing on the support and promotion of Czech agriculture. Hundreds of visitors had the opportunity to gain insight into the world of Czech farmers, taste regional foods, and learn about the work of farmers, fishers, foresters, and beekeepers.

The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the University of South Bohemia represented the fisheries sector and prepared tastings of fish products from its faculty shop and fish processing facility. Great interest was attracted by the fish salads Rožmberk, Krčín, and Josef, as well as the original carp tartare. The presentation also included a showcase of caviar-based cosmetics and expert consultations in the field of fisheries and aquaculture. As part of the faculty’s presentation, visitors could also taste sausages and frankfurters made from African catfish provided by the company Happy Fish. The offer of fish products was further complemented by the Pohořelice Fishery.

As part of the professional program, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Tomáš Policar, presented the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the University of South Bohemia, the large research infrastructure CENAKVA, as well as Czech aquaculture and . Among the visitors were also Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček, and Minister of Agriculture Martin Šebestyán.

The event launched a new series of thematic Saturdays, during which individual ministries will be gradually introduced to the public in the gardens of the Office of the Government, presenting their activities and agendas. The next events will feature the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on June 20 and the Ministry of Health on September 5.
