Workshop on technology and methods of tagging freshwater organisms

On March 17, 2026, a workshop focused on tagging fish using P.I.T. chips was held at our faculty, led by Mr. Armando Piccinini from VodaIQ, who has extensive experience with tagging various freshwater and marine organisms.

In the morning, the workshop participants, including students, scientists and academics, listened to lectures focused on the history of animal tagging, technical specifications of chips and readers, as well as various tagging techniques with respect to the type of fish and its anatomy.

The afternoon program was dedicated to practical training in various tagging techniques for the species of freshwater fish bred in the Czech Republic across age categories, including crayfish and frogs. At the same time, they were able to try out the system for automatic digitization of the phenotypic data of growth-related traits.

We would like to thank Mr. Armando Piccinini for his professional leadership of the workshop, the co-organizer for the faculty, Mr. Martin Prchal, as well as other faculty employees who participated in the organization of this event. The workshop was closely linked to the solution of project no. QL26010015.
