The Future of Sustainable Aquaculture: Challenges, Innovation and Research Opportunities

On 11 August 2026, I was invited as the Chief Guest to deliver a presentation on “The Future of Sustainable Aquaculture: Challenges, Innovation and Research Opportunities” to undergraduate and postgraduate students at Thanthai Hans Roever College, Bharathidasan University, India.
The presentation covered key topics including the importance of aquaculture for global food security, blue transformation, fish disease management, sustainable nutrition and alternative feeds, smart aquaculture, closed-loop production systems, emerging research opportunities, the One Health approach, and the blue economy. I also shared information about my research activities and current developments in sustainable aquaculture.
An important part of the visit was to motivate students towards higher education and research careers. I introduced opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD studies at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, including information about our research facilities, laboratories, research activities, publications, research teams, and funding opportunities in the Czech Republic and Europe.
During the visit, I also met with the Principal and Head of the Department to discuss opportunities for student higher education, academic exchange, and future research collaboration. We exchanged information about our respective research activities and discussed possibilities for strengthening academic links between the institutions.
The activity was a valuable opportunity for research knowledge sharing, student motivation, international academic outreach, and future collaboration. Photographs from the presentation and student interaction are attached as supporting evidence, and it was published in the local newspaper.
