From 22nd to 26th June 2026, I was at Chiang Mai University, the Department of Animal and Aquatic Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Immunonutrition Laboratory, for 5 days, teaching and visiting the research facilities. I had a meeting with the Associate Professor Dr. Hien Van Doan, Head of the Immunonutrition Laboratory.
Over 5 days, I visited the rearing systems and facilities for fish and shrimp culture, particularly zebrafish (Danio rerio), Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer), giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), and Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) at the Immunonutrition Laboratory, including the recirculation aquaculture system (RAS), ponds, and biofloc system. This laboratory focuses on optimising sustainable practices in aquaculture with smart and precision farming techniques and feed formulations. It addresses the incorporation of novel nutrient sources and the valorisation of agricultural by-products in aquafeeds, as well as improving the production performance, safety, immune system, and welfare of aquatic animals. I gained 8 hours of teaching experience for 20 international students entitled ‘’Medicinal plant additives and alternative protein sources in aquafeed’’. Under this title, I highlighted the background and current condition of aquaculture in the subjects of application of medicinal plants and alternative protein sources in aquafeed, focusing on my personal research and findings in these research areas.
In conclusion, the 5-day training activity gave me an excellent opportunity to gain experience in teaching and become familiar with different aquaculture methods and cultured aquatic species in Thailand. Moreover, I could find new research trends and expand my research networks, which gave me the chance to exchange and discuss my ideas with expert researchers to develop my original ideas for future projects. Finally, the visit and teaching increased my experience and the chance of international contributions that will have benefits for both sides.
