Advancing Aquaculture: International Collaboration with the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries

To foster international cooperation, I visited the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin for a joint research project. With 37 different research groups, the IGB is the largest German research center for inland waters and Fisheries.

This collaboration focuses on the exploration of mucosal immunity in rainbow trout, a vital factor in sustainable aquaculture practices. By adding natural substances to the rearing water, we increased the mucosal immunity and improved the antibacterial potential. With this, rainbow trout can protect themselves better against pathogens in the water, thereby reducing the need for chemicals or antibiotics.
