Business trip report, Spain, Mueni Laurine

From May 1 to June 30, 2025, I had the opportunity to join the team at the Institute of Animal Science and Technology, Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, for my internship. During my stay, I conducted a series of experiments investigating the effects of viscosity on sperm motility in fish, specifically the European eel and small-spotted catshark, where I compiled a series of videos for detailed analysis. Beyond the lab, I gained hands-on experience with zootechnical techniques for handling those species, including hormonal treatment to induce sexual maturation in the eels. I also participated in the Fira dels Invents 2025, held at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, where we discussed ongoing research, networked, and also aimed at bringing more young researchers to the field.
