Cooperation & ESFRI

The CENAKVA Research Center actively contributes to the development of the European Research Area through its participation in European research infrastructures DANUBIUS, LTER, and GenoPhenix. Based on a Memorandum of Understanding, CENAKVA also collaborates with the national infrastructure ELIXIR CZ (the national node of the European infrastructure ELIXIR RI), supporting intensive cooperation, knowledge sharing, and the development of innovative approaches in the field of biological data and aquaculture. Furthermore, CENAKVA is part of the Czech node of the European initiative EOSC (European Open Science Cloud). Within the Czech EOSC CZ, we are actively involved in the working groups “Environmental Sciences” and “Bio/Health/Food.” This collaboration enables us to share our expertise and contribute to the advancement of open science in Europe.

  • DANUBIUS RI

DANUBIUS RI /the International Centre for Advanced Studies on River-Sea Systems/ is an innovative international research center specializing in the study of rivers and seas. Its main goal is to explore the interrelationships between river and marine ecosystems, including river mouths, deltas, and lagoons.

“Supersites” are key components of the distributed research infrastructure DANUBIUS-RI. They serve as testing environments for scientifically excellent concepts, which will be further developed, validated, and applied under real-world conditions.

Within the international platform DANUBIUS ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium), which focuses on comprehensive research of freshwater ecosystems, CENAKVA acts as the coordinating partner of one of the key components of the distributed infrastructure – the so-called SUPERSITE Hydrological Nexus of Central Europe.

  • GenoPhenix

The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, through the Large Research Infrastructure CENAKVA, is involved as a core partner in the preparation of a project proposal named GenoPHEnix. The GenoPHEnix project aims to obtain the status of an "ESFRI Project" in the upcoming update of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) roadmap in 2026. Anchoring the project on the ESFRI roadmap will open the possibility for other relevant institutions in the Czech Republic to participate in the preparatory or implementation phase of the project.

The GenoPHEnix projects /a European research infrastructure to deliver consolidated services for research on genome and phenome interactions for terrestrial and aquatic farming systems/ focuses on linking the genotyping and phenotyping of livestock, which will lead to the creation of a platform for animal genetic resources, sustainable breeding with an emphasis on improving animal health, welfare, resilience, and the efficiency of sustainable production.

CALL FOR CSOB PROJECTS

CALL FOR CSOB PROJECTS

At the end of 2024, the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice successfully concluded a partnership agreement with CSOB. The agreement reflects a shared commitment by both parties to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable practices across various areas of human activity. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting biodiversity, sustainable fisheries, water conservation, fish processing, and the marketing and consumption of domestic fish products.

The partnership also includes support for a scholarship program aimed at talented students. “I consider this a major achievement and a strong recognition of our work to date. Establishing cooperation on socially significant topics with such a prominent Czech banking institution as CSOB is a great success", said the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Tomáš Policar.

As part of the agreement, the faculty has committed to developing at least six sub-projects that will address current environmental challenges and the other key areas mentioned above within the Czech Republic. “It is both a commitment and a challenge for us to contribute to fulfilling our social responsibility", added Prof. Policar. It is worth noting that communication between the two institutions had been ongoing for some time, and the signing of this agreement represents a natural outcome of that long-term dialogue. The results of this collaboration will be published on a regular basis.
