Dean´s Collegium

Dean's Collegium is, according to the Statute of FFPW USB, a permanent advisory body to the Dean. Its members include the Dean, Vice-Deans, the Faculty Registrar, Directors of Institutes and CENAKVA, the Head of the Management Section, the Quality Coordinator, and possibly other individuals (e.g., Heads of CENAKVA Research Programs).

The Chair of the Academic Senate of FFPW USB is invited to the meetings of the Dean's Collegium as a guest. The Dean's Collegium typically approves all internal regulations and standards of the faculty or comments on the wording of regulations and standards submitted for approval to other faculty or university bodies. The Collegium also addresses other matters related to the strategy, development, and operation of the faculty.

Disciplinary Board of the FFPW USB

Disciplinary Board of the FFPW USB reviews allegations of disciplinary offenses. The chair and other members of the Disciplinary Board are appointed by the Dean from among members of the faculty's academic community. They are appointed and dismissed with the consent of the Faculty Academic Senate. The Disciplinary Board consists of a chair and five members, three of whom are students. The term of office for Disciplinary Board members is two years. The Dean ensures the continuity of the committee’s activities.

The Disciplinary Board addresses student disciplinary offenses at FFPW USB related to breaches of obligations set out in Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, or in the internal regulations of the faculty and university, or violations of obligations under other legal regulations. The Disciplinary Board operates in accordance with the Disciplinary Code for Students ofFFPW USB in České Budějovice dated December 14th, 2009.

CALL FOR CSOB PROJECTS

At the end of 2024, the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice successfully concluded a partnership agreement with CSOB. The agreement reflects a shared commitment by both parties to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable practices across various areas of human activity. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting biodiversity, sustainable fisheries, water conservation, fish processing, and the marketing and consumption of domestic fish products.

The partnership also includes support for a scholarship program aimed at talented students. “I consider this a major achievement and a strong recognition of our work to date. Establishing cooperation on socially significant topics with such a prominent Czech banking institution as CSOB is a great success", said the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Tomáš Policar.

As part of the agreement, the faculty has committed to developing at least six sub-projects that will address current environmental challenges and the other key areas mentioned above within the Czech Republic. “It is both a commitment and a challenge for us to contribute to fulfilling our social responsibility", added Prof. Policar. It is worth noting that communication between the two institutions had been ongoing for some time, and the signing of this agreement represents a natural outcome of that long-term dialogue. The results of this collaboration will be published on a regular basis.

Open Science at Our Faculty

What is Open Science (OS)?

Open Science is an approach to scientific work that promotes transparency, sharing, and reproducibility of research. The main goal of OS is to ensure that scientific results are accessible to the public, the scientific community, and other stakeholders.

Open Science is an umbrella term for a variety of concepts and practices that support openness in the scientific process. It includes practices that facilitate the dissemination of results and knowledge, the accumulation of scientific understanding, and the verification of conclusions, thereby enhancing the credibility of science. The main principles of Open Science are open access, open data, open methodologies, open peer review, and open education.

  • Open Access: Free and unrestricted online access to scientific publications.
  • Open Data: Sharing of research data that is freely available for further analysis and use.
  • Open Methodologies: Transparent sharing of research methods and procedures.
  • Open Peer Review: Transparent peer review processes for scientific works.
  • Open Education: Sharing of educational resources and materials.

The goal of Open Science is to enhance the transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility of scientific research for the general public.

Data Management Plan (DMP)

A Data Management Plan is a formal document that outlines how data will be managed throughout the research project lifecycle, from collection to archiving.

Main components of DMP include:

  • Purpose: Explains why specific data is needed and the questions the project addresses.
  • Definition of Data: Describes the types of data to be collected, their formats, and how they will be organized.
  • Data Collection and Access: Details how data will be collected, stored, and accessed.
  • Metadata: Contextual information that makes data understandable and usable.
  • Data Sharing and Reuse: Describes how data will be shared with other researchers and the public, including legal and ethical considerations.
  • Long-term Preservation: Plans for long-term archiving and data protection.

A DMP is a key tool to ensure that data is properly managed, protected, and prepared for future use.

How Do We Support Open Science at Our Faculty?

  • Support with Data Management Plan (DMP):

    Organizing research in accordance with OS principles. Assistance with structuring data collection, processing, and sharing. Providing training and consultations for DMP preparation based on funding agency requirements.

  • Assistance with Data Storage:

    Ensuring long-term and secure data storage. We can assist you with.

    • select appropriate repositories suited to specific research needs.
    • Proper annotation and documentation of data for accessibility and usability by others.

    Support for Open Science Compliance and Data Sharing:

    • Guidance on licensing to protect data while ensuring access.
    • Technical support for uploading data to repositories or sharing via platforms like EOSC (European Open Science Cloud), Zenodo, etc.

  • Consultation During Project Preparation

    • Incorporating Open Science principles from the project design stage.
    • Identifying obligations and opportunities related to open access.

Services for the project

  • Creating Project Applications:

    The first step involves drafting a project proposal, setting goals, and outlining preliminary data management strategies. Contact the Datasteward for assistance.

  • Upon Approval:

    If the project is approved, inform the Datasteward to assist with further planning and implementation of the data management plan.

  • Ongoing Support:

    Throughout the project's duration, the datasteward will provide consultations and support. This includes long-term data storage, sharing, and publication in line with best practices and standards.

  • Data accessible via the Zenodo repository

    Our faculty has established a community on the Zenodo repository - Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, CENAKVA, University of South Bohemia Ceske Budejovice. Where open data sets are available.

    We kindly ask everyone who will be publishing data on this repository to tag their datasets and add them to this community. This will help us make our datasets more visible. Instructions on how to assign a dataset to the community can be found here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15039295

  • Data accessible via National Repository Platform for Research Data - Repo

    National Repository Platform for Research Data (NRP) is a key project of the Czech implementation of the EOSC CZ (European Open Science Cloud) initiative. Its goal is to create a robust infrastructure for the management, sharing, and long-term preservation of research data in the Czech Republic, in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

Collaboration within EOSC

We are actively engaged with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), particularly within the working groups "Environmental Sciences" and "Bio/Health/Food." This initiative enables us to share and utilize scientific data at the European level, supporting Open Science and innovation. You will find data sources, a service for sharing and privately sending scientific data to colleagues, and tools and a service for data analysis.
