The Genetic Fisheries Centre of FFPW USB Opens a New Modern Experimental Hall
The newly constructed hall of the Genetic Fisheries Centre of FROV JU represents a significant expansion and modernization of the experimental infrastructure for fish research. Its implementation was motivated by technological limitations of the existing facilities, which restricted the efficient execution of demanding experiments as well as the further development of research teams and their activities. With increasing demands on the study of reproductive biology, genetics, and fish conservation, the need arose to establish specialized facilities with adequate capacity.
A key driving factor was the need to ensure suitable conditions for experiments focused on endangered fish species, particularly sturgeons, which require specific breeding and experimental regimes. At the same time, it was necessary to strengthen the infrastructure for research on species important for aquaculture, such as carp and trout. The new building makes it possible to concentrate key research activities into a single, functionally integrated complex.
The ground floor houses the experimental facilities of the Laboratory of Reproductive Physiology and the Laboratory of Molecular, Quantitative and Cellular Genetics. The upper floor provides comprehensive facilities for the Laboratory of Germ Cells, including specialized laboratory spaces, rooms for microscopic analysis, and administrative facilities.
The new hall thus significantly increases the research capacity of the faculty and creates favorable conditions for the development of international teams of scientists and students who apply innovative approaches in basic research, biodiversity conservation, as well as in commercial fisheries and aquaculture.
The construction of the new hall of the Genetic Fisheries Centre in Vodňany was carried out in cooperation with the construction company KOČÍ, a.s., within the agreed timeframe and required quality standards. Despite minor complications that arose during implementation, primarily on the part of subcontractors, the project was successfully completed in accordance with the original plan.
We appreciate the professional approach, cooperative attitude, and ability to respond оперативně to emerging situations. Special thanks go to the implementation team led by Mr. Zábranský for excellent communication, coordination of work, and the overall course of construction. We were satisfied with the cooperation and can recommend KOČÍ, a.s. as a reliable partner.
