The prestigious Minister of Agriculture Award for Young Scientists was received at this year's Země živitelka, agricultural exhibition, by Lenka Kajgrová from the Faculty of Fisheries and Water Protection at the University of South Bohemia. Her story illustrates how science can be connected with practical impacts on the landscape. In her research, she focuses on how pond ecosystems function and seeks specific measures for their ecologically and economically sustainable use. She also examines the impacts of eutrophication, changes in nutrient ratios, and invasive species in aquatic ecosystems.
"I greatly appreciate the award – I see it as confirmation that it makes sense to look for ways to do things differently and better. It motivates me to continue research that connects landscape care with everyday practice and contribute to making landscape management more sustainable and nature-friendly. At the same time, for me, this award symbolizes the end of one challenging but meaningful stage and the beginning of a new one, in which I want to continue developing these values,” says award-winning scientist Lenka Kajgrová.
The award is intended for researchers under 35 who have significantly contributed to the development of their field through their projects and results in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, or food science. Lenka Kajgrová succeeded among 29 applicants. Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný highlighted scientific awards as one of the key points of the international agrosalon because they connect research with practice.
