People have experienced science with all their senses

Friday's Night of Scientists at FROVka was enjoyed by young and old alike, literally with all their senses. The last evening in September was dedicated to the traditional celebration of science and research, the Night of Scientists.
The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters USB was also involved and offered visitors a rich programme on the campus of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and also in Nové Hrady. People had the opportunity to experience the grip of cryfish´s claws, mix their own fish salad or find out how a troubled cell feels. With the help of binocular microscopes, visitors discovered unexpected details of various natural materials and parts of insect´s or plant´s body and immersed themselves in the secrets of luminescence. On a time-lapse video, they watched the growth of animal cells on the surfaces of materials used in medicine and also had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends in microscopy and got a glimpse over the development of the most modern, efficient microscopes. Especially the aquaponic greenhouse attracted great interest, where people learned about the new technology of fish farming and vegetable growing. In another faculty building, they could smell various water samples or watch plankton under a microscope on a large screen.
In total, approximately 900 people visited the faculty programme at the various sites, which was a great success.
