New Horizon Europe project

Since September 2026, the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters at the University of South Bohemia has been a partner in the new European project DANUBEAQUA – Demonstrating renewable energy and digital solutions for a resilient regional aquaculture.

The project is coordinated by the Hungarian Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform Association (HUNATiP) and brings together 19 European partners. DANUBEAQUA will run for 36 months, with  Jindřiška Knowles, Ph.D. serving as the principal investigator for the FFPW USB.

The aim of the project is to demonstrate how renewable energy sources and digital technologies can contribute to the transformation of aquaculture in the Danube and Black Sea region. Within the project, the team led by Dr Knowles leads a work package focused on the pilot validation and demonstration of new technologies across different types of aquaculture systems and also operates the Czech Research RAS demonstration site, where new technologies for recirculating aquaculture systems will be tested. The team also leads the collection and evaluation of data from all demonstration sites and contributes to transferring the resulting knowledge and experience into practice and to the education of future aquaculture professionals.

This project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme under Grant Agreement No. 101295891.
