The Night of Scientists, whose theme was transformation, brought the public closer to science and research at all eight faculties of the University of South Bohemia. The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters USB prepared an interactive programme for its visitors on the campus of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and also in Nové Hrady.
Young and old alike discovered the magic of water during experiments, tried various fishing techniques or got to know the world of rivers, ponds and river floodplains through interactive models. Traditionally, the demonstrations of living organisms, such as non-native species of the crayfish kingdom or little-known small fish - killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri), whose main advantage is survival in extreme conditions, mainly thanks to embryos that can completely dry out and at this stage survive even long periods of drought, were a great attraction.
The biggest attraction was undoubtedly the production of ice cream. The aquaponic greenhouse, glowing purple in the dark, attracted over 400 people for guided tours, a record attendance. Children were able to take home their own planted basil or carnivore.
The Night of Scientists attracted over 3,200 visitors to the University of South Bohemia despite the bad weather. We are already looking forward to the next edition.
