Seminar "Support for species and technological diversification of production fisheries in the Czech Republic"

On 4th December  2024, a seminar was held at the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters USB to conclude the NAZV QK22020144 project titled “Species and Technological Diversification of Production Fisheries in the Czech Republic to Enhance Efficiency and Competitiveness” and the Interreg Austria-Czech Cooperation project ATCZ00002_AquaCycle. The seminar was organized at the MEVPIS Vodňany premises and included not only expert lectures but also a presentation by the company Smotech s.r.o.

The lectures covered topics such as bicultural fish farming under intensive conditions, fish farming using the pontoon system, reproductive strategies of pikeperch and its adaptation after stocking, nutrient recycling in intensive fish farming using insects and plants, support of periphyton in production ponds, nutrient deposition under pond dams during harvests, and more.

The seminar was attended primarily by fish farmers, including private breeders and members of the Czech Fishing Union (ČRS). Researchers from the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia, the Hydrobiological Institute of the Academy of Sciences, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, also participated. I believe that this seminar helped to transfer the experience accumulated during the project to both the fisheries and scientific communities and will contribute to the further development of Czech aquaculture.
