The Vodňany Fisheries Days Concluded: The Processing Plant Offered Innovative Fish Dishes

The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters at the University of South Bohemia once again actively participated in the traditional Vodňany Fisheries Days 2026, which attracted thousands of visitors. During the ceremonial opening of the Saturday program at the town square, the dean of the faculty, Prof. Tomáš Policar, also delivered a speech, highlighting the importance of fisheries for the region as well as the role of education and research in this field.

The faculty stand “Fish for Health” attracted great interest from visitors. In addition to traditional fish specialties, colleagues from the processing plant prepared original and innovative dishes. The menu included a fish burger, a fish hot dog, and a zander wrap. These modern forms of fish processing were met with an exceptionally positive response—visitors appreciated not only the taste but also the creative approach. Many returned to the stand repeatedly.

As in previous years, there was also great interest in the faculty’s facilities. Visitors could explore the Genetic Fisheries Center, where they viewed a unique collection of 12 species of sturgeon. The Experimental and Fish Farming Facility was also open, allowing guests to observe cultured fish and learn interesting facts about crayfish. At the main building, guided tours of state-of-the-art laboratories were available.

The program also catered to families with children—MEVPIS offered a rich and thematically engaging program that appealed to both younger and older visitors.

We would like to thank everyone who visited our facilities or fish food stand, as well as all employees for their dedication in preparing and organizing the event.
