Professor Giovanni M. Turchini Presented the Principles of Successful Experimental Feeding Trials in Aquaculture Nutrition at a Lunch Seminar

On 21 July 2026, the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, University of South Bohemia, hosted a lunch seminar by Prof. Giovanni M. Turchini from The University of Melbourne (Australia), who also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious journal Reviews in Aquaculture.

In his lecture entitled "Research in Aquaculture Nutrition: What Makes an Experimental Feeding Trial Successful?", Prof. Turchini focused on the key principles of designing high-quality experimental feeding trials in aquaculture nutrition. He emphasized that every successful experiment should begin with a clearly defined scientific question and a testable hypothesis. The audience was introduced to common pitfalls in experimental design, as well as the importance of sound statistical planning, adequate replication, and the development of nutritionally balanced experimental diets. Although the seminar was aimed primarily at early-career researchers and PhD students, its broader message was relevant to anyone involved in experimental research.

The seminar took place in the ZR Building of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters and was supported by the CENAKVA Research Centre (RP3). The total number of particpants in this CENAKVA lunch seminar was 34.
