Ing. Josef Pokorný, CSc. Has Passed Away

We regret to announce that Ing. Josef Pokorný, CSc., a long-time employee of the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology in Vodňany, passed away on June 5, 2026, at the age of 92. At our institute, he had been directing breeding work in fish farming since 1982, participated in the development of a breeding program for common carp and rainbow trout, and established a breeding and testing station in Vodňany. He served as chairman of the Breeding Council for Fish Farming at the State Fisheries enterprise and, in the early 1990s, during its transformation into the Czech Fish farmers´ Association. He also taught at the Secondary School of Fisheries in Vodňany. He was the author and co-author of more than 130 original works, technical papers, and fisheries textbooks. Even younger generations of fish farmers are familiar with his publications *Atlas of Carps Bred in the Czech Republic* (Pokorný J. et al., Victoria Publishing, 1995) and *The Great Encyclopedic Fisheries Dictionary* (Pokorný J. et al., Fraus, 2004).

Please take a moment of silence to honor his memory.
