Report on the AquaCycle Project Kick-off Conference

ATCZ00002 – AquaCycle: Reducing Emissions in Aquaculture through Sustainable Use of Wastewater and Nutrients

On September 10th and 11th, 2024, the kick-off conference for the AquaCycle (INTERREG VI-A Austria - Czechia 2021 – 2027) project took place in the large lecture hall of the FFPW USB, IEEAIC Vodňany. The event was opened with a speech by the Dean of the FFPW USB, Prof. Ing. Tomáš Policar, Ph.D., followed by an introduction of the project activities, which focus on sustainable technologies in aquaculture.

The program on the first day featured presentations by experts from the Czech Republic and Austria, covering topics such as recirculating systems, sustainable development in the food industry, aquaponics and also the legislation. The first day ended with a demonstration of our indoor and outdoor recirculation systems and experimental ponds.

The second day was dedicated to technical excursions, including a visit to a production fishery, a tour of the aquaponics greenhouse at the FFPW USB in České Budějovice, and a visit to the African catfish breeding facility at Tilapia s.r.o.
