Report of the traineeship in the Institute of Biotechnology, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico

Electrophysiology is a sophisticated field of study. Very few groups worldwide are working in this field. One of the renowned groups from this field is Dr. Darszon's group. They are working on mammalian sperm cells to understand different signalling pathways through ion channels. I am also working on potassium ion channels in fish sperm cells. Therefore, I sought to learn the technology for identifying channels and their functions in sperm physiology under the supervision of Dr. Ignacio Lopez Gonzalez, a full-time researcher in the group. I was able to perform patch and whole-cell recordings on HEK293 cells as a practice exercise within the month of the traineeship, from October 30th to November 30th, 2025. It was a great opportunity to work with this renowned group.
