Horizon 2020 project preparation with Wageningen University and Research, Netherlands (16.04.2023-17.04.2023)

A 2-stage Horizon project on fish nutrition, for pond systems, integrating circular bioeconomy and planetary health thoughts is being prepared with Animal and Fisheries Institute of the Wageningen University and Research, Netherlands (AFI WUR) as lead agency. From University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice, Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters (USB FFPW), Assoc. Prof. Jan Mraz, Ph.D. (as co-investigator of the project; applicant from USB FFPW) and Dr. Koushik Roy (as main researcher of work package) recently visited AFI WUR for an official meeting (16.04-17.04.2023). The meeting was successful. The work package for which USB FFPW would be responsible would involve “pond aquaculture and carp nutrition” research capacities of CENAKVA sustainable aquaculture VP3.

It is also a welcome news that the small pond fish nutrition research group of USB FFPW, institute of aquaculture and protection of waters (IAPW), has gained international attention from food system scientists and animal nutritionists. Attached is a photo where Dr. Ollie van Hal from WUR-AFI, an emerging food system scientist, talks about models for fixing our future terrestrial food system and later discussed how USB FFPW could help expand the model integrating aquatic food system with Czech fishponds. Dr. Koushik Roy further informed about a submitted GACR outgoing postdoc fellowship from USB FFPW to WUR AFI, which if successful, could be used to develop such models.
