Report from the business trip to Bergen, Norway

Between November 12-26, 2021, I conducted a business trip to the IMR - Institute of Marine Research in Bergen (Havforskningsinstituttet), where I worked for the Virgin salmon Project as a postdoc researcher at the Department of Reproduction and Development from 2017 to 2020.  The Crispant dnd KO broodstock yet fertile (F0) I created for the Virgin salmon project has finally reached the breeding stage; therefore, germ cells (eggs, sperm) have been sampled for mutational and quality analyses. Also, I fertilized the best parents according to their genotypes. I microinjected dnd mRNA into the fertilized group (F1) to rescue germ cells which carry the sterility trait as dnd loss of function mutation. After all the experiments, we evaluated the recent data and upcoming results to be able to present the second paper from this project. We drew a work plan for the further steps and paper submission deadline. All the current results of the project were presented at the department group meeting on November 25th. We have also discussed a new project idea to continue the collaboration and submit the proposal in February 2022 to the Norwegian grant.
