Report from Ljubljana trip, Slovenia, Hui Jia

I have completed a three-month traineeship at the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana (BF-UL) from 9^th February to 12^th May 2023. The internship aimed to gain experience in advanced biotechnical and proteomics techniques. During my stay at BF-UL, I learned several methods for microbial protease activity characterization (phenotypic screening, e.g., “clear zones on agar plates”, azocasein method) and molecular (PCR amplification of selected genes) and correlation of the results collected for selected strains. These skills were applied to evaluate fish or fish products' quality and shelf life in a Food Model (homogenate of common carp meat), and the results were evaluated with professional software.
