Martin Musil was from April to December 2022 a member of the Presidency team dealing with EU fisheries policy issues and is an expert in freshwater aquaculture and the conservation of high migratory fish species, particularly eels and salmon. However, the work of the whole team includes chairing working party of the EU Council and preparing other meetings, e.g. for the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States, the Council of Agriculture and Fisheries and others. In addition, it has dealt with all issues related to the Common Fisheries Policy, which is based on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the EU. One of the main outputs of the work of the whole Presidency team was the allocation and setting of total allowable catches for different species and fish stocks in EU waters, or the development of EU strategic principles on sustainable aquaculture. Martin has been significantly involved in the day-to-day activities of the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU, participating in a large number of meetings at many levels. He prepared and planned bilateral meetings between the individual MS and the Presidency team. He was also involved in planning and preparing documents for these meetings, in particular dealing with the issue of river eels and the Baltic Sea. He made a significant contribution to the development of a Czech-English-Latin dictionary of fish species in the EU, intended for translators. During his time in Brussels, he helped prepare and participated in a number of conferences on sustainable aquaculture, fisheries and fish migration.
