Business trip report, Germany, Morshed

I took a two-month internship (April 15 – June 15, 2026) under the supervision of Dr. Kathrin Engel at the Institute for Medical Physics and Biophysics, Faculty of Medicine, Leipzig University in Leipzig, Germany. It aimed to analyze membrane lipid compositions of sterlet and rainbow trout sperm under antioxidant treatments during Short-term storage and cryopreservation.

During my stay, I developed proficiency in advanced lipidomics techniques, including performing lipid extraction, HPTLC separation of lipid classes, and Electrospray Ionization Ion-Trap Mass Spectrometry (ESI-IT MS), as well as participating in phosphorus (31P) NMR analysis to validate phospholipid profiles. Fatty acid compositions were analyzed via GC-MS in collaboration with Dr. Dirk Dannenberger (FBN). This experience enabled collaboration with international experts, yielding reproducible data for my PhD thesis and a joint peer-reviewed publication. This project was financed by ERASMUS+ Mobility (SMT), co-funded by PPSR from FROV, and RVO funding from the Laboratory of Reproductive Physiology.
