Business trip report, Norway, Osei

The objective of the visit to the Nofima aquaculture research station was to quantify the impact of fasting on the behavior and fin damage of young Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout, and to classify these effects using artificial intelligence, as part of the TNA Aquaexcel 3.0 project.

During the period from June 16th to July 29th, 2025, I conducted research activities at the Nofima aquaculture research station. My primary responsibilities included:

  • Managing data collection using underwater cameras to monitor the behavior and physical condition of young Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout under fasting conditions.
  • Performing body weight, length and fin scoring sampling.
  • Utilizing GoPro cameras to capture additional data for analysis, specifically tailored for our collaborators’ requirements.
  • Ensuring proper setup, operation, and maintenance of camera equipment to obtain high-quality data for subsequent artificial intelligence-based classification.
  • Collaborating with the research team to align data collection protocols with project objectives.

The data collected during the visit provides a robust dataset for analyzing the behavioral and physical impacts of fasting on Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout. The underwaterand GoPro camera footage will support the application of artificial intelligence to classify these effects, contributing to the broader goals of the TNA Aquaexcel 3.0 project.
