Business trip report, Slovakia, Kouba et al.

Between 1 and 4 July 2025, Antonín Kouba, Jakub Kocour, and Lucie Šmolíková carried out astacological monitoring across more than 40 sites on the Žitný ostrov, with assistance from our Slovak colleagues Ján Kaľavský and Barbora Kaľavská. The primary aim was to determine the current distribution of the red swamp crayfish in this region, following up on its occurrence, which we had previously reported in this article.

Although this species was first recorded only in 2023, we were already able to observe its spread through local water channels in various directions over several kilometres. The spiny-cheek crayfish, which had already been present in the area, was more widespread, and the signal crayfish had also newly appeared, spreading along the Danube River.
