Laboratory of Freshwater Ecosystems
Societal Relevance
The Laboratory of Freshwater Ecosystems collaborates with Czech enterprises and companies involved in fish farming, the development of new technical solutions in aquaculture, and water monitoring; with the Czech Angling Union; municipalities; regional authorities; river basin authorities; as well as with the Ministry of the Environment and the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic. In addition, the laboratory actively participates in public educational activities—from programs for primary schools and secondary schools to workshops for professional audiences.
These enterprises, institutions, organizations, and members of the professional community are also recipients and potential users of the outcomes of our work, which contribute to:
- Improved cooperation in species conservation
- Eradication and regulation of invasive species
- Addressing ecological and socio-economic problems in freshwater ecosystems
- Efforts to change water management practices, prioritizing water protection
- Raising awareness across the general public, professionals, and industry
- Economic evaluation of biological invasions
- Education—from schools to universities and professional workshops
- Coordinated rescue transfers (due to droughts, construction activities)
- Defining links between climate change and the use of water resources
- Development of pond aquaculture management under changing environmental conditions (safe for both producers and the environment)
