Laboratory of Intensive Aquaculture
Research Focus and Directions
The primary goal of research at LIA is to introduce innovative aquaculture practices into commercial production. These practices aim at efficient, profitable, continuous, and quantitatively and qualitatively stable production of valuable complementary fish species with minimal energy, water inflow, and nutrient demands.
Our research integrates biological performance, system engineering, and economic feasibility.
Development and innovation of technological components for various production aquaculture systems
For pond-based, pontoon, and recirculating aquaculture systems, LIA staff technologically and technically develop and innovate individual components such as airlifts, mechanical and biological filters, rearing tanks, oxygen mixers, and various sensors for water quality monitoring.
Larval Rearing and Early Juvenile Fish Stages
The aim of the research is to optimize the nutrition and rearing management of primitively developed larvae of pikeperch, burbot, and tench, achieving high survival rates and optimal development of juvenile fish intended for subsequent intensive culture.
Rearing older fish categories under controlled conditions in various production systems
After rearing and obtaining high‑quality juvenile fish, LIA staff focus on the technological and technical optimization of rearing older age categories of selected fish species in various production systems (RAS, ponds, their combinations, pontoon systems, or biofloc). The aim is to minimize the requirements for energy, inflow water, and nutrients, while maximizing the volume and quality of production with low production costs.
Broodstock rearing and their natural and out‑of‑season reproduction
Production of live feed organisms
