On 4 September 2025, a professional meeting of the fishing public took place in Teplá. One of the main speakers was Dr. Ján Regenda, who gave a comprehensive presentation on the current state of the Czech fishing sector.
The state of freshwater fish production and consumption
The lecture provided a detailed overview of freshwater fish production and consumption in the Czech Republic. The data presented showed that the Czech fish market, especially for carp, is facing significant challenges:
Demographic changes and loss of customers
Demographic trends over the last 35 years are also a significant factor. Cumulatively, the Czech market has lost around 4 million customers, who have been replaced by a generation without the traditional habit of consuming freshwater fish. This segment is not yet systematically addressed by marketing activities.
New initiative: Rybáři sobě s.r.o.
A new initiative, Rybáři sobě s.r.o., was also introduced at the meeting, with the aim of helping to revive the market for home-grown fish and encourage its consumption.
