The presentation of the candidate for the position of Rector of the University of South Bohemia, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Pavel Kozák, Ph.D. took place on Tuesday, 7th November 2023, in accordance with the schedule of the announced election for the position of Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice for the period 2024–2028.
After the introductory words of Dr. Rudolf Hrubý, the chairman of the Academic Senate of the USB, Professor Pavel Kozák presented his vision for the fulfillment of the Rector's office to the present members of the academic community and university employees. Then he answered questions from the audience.
The election of the candidate for the position of Rector for the period 2024–2028 will take place at the meeting of the Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, which will be held on 14th November 2023 from 2 p.m.
A brief biography of Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Pavel Kozák, Ph.D.:
Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Pavel Kozák, Ph.D., is a Czech scientist and educator who specializes in crustacean and mollusc breeding. He currently works as the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
He was born in Pacov in 1971. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, where he received an engineering degree in 1993. In 2002, he received his Ph.D. at the same University, in 2009 he attained the rank of Associate Professor, and in 2015 he was appointed Professor in the field of Fisheries at the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the USB.
Pavel Kozák is an experienced leader, he was the Director of the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology in Vodňany in the years 2009 to 2017, and at the same time, he was the head of the Laboratory of Fish and Crayfish Ethology. From 2009, when the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the University of South Bohemia was founded, until 2013 he worked as the Vice-Dean for External Relations, and then in 2017 he became the Dean of the Faculty, which he is to this day.
He was a member of the Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia, the International Scientific Board of the Faculty and CENAKVA Center, and the scientific councils of several educational or scientific institutions. The Minister of Agriculture appointed him a member of the Monitoring Committee of OP Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture) and other commissions related to fisheries. He has been a member of the International Astacological Organization since 1998, and since 2015 he has been working in its closest leadership. He has been a long-term member of the evaluation panels of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic and now he chairs the evaluation panel of Plant and Animal Ecology.
As the Rector, he wants a modern and competitive university that will be transparent in management, decision-making, and communication with the public.
Pavel Kozák is married and has three children and three grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, cycling, reading, and nature.
