On Thursday, October 22, 2026, an expert Lunch Seminar organized by the CENAKVA research center and the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, USB (FFPW USB), took place in the large meeting room in Vodňany. The keynote speaker was international expert Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Bayir from Atatürk University in Turkey, who serves as a visiting professor at the faculty.
Professor Bayir delivered a lecture entitled “Research Journey in Aquaculture: From Fish Nutrition to Sustainable Food Production”. In his talk, he summarized his extensive experience in fish nutrition and molecular genomics research, focusing on modern trends that connect biotechnology with sustainable food production.
The main topics of the seminar included:
- The application of targeted genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 and inducible gene regulation
- The benefits of precision nutrition for improving productivity and environmental sustainability in aquaculture
- International collaborative projects focused on circular bioeconomy, aquaponics, and low-carbon agricultural technologies
The meeting provided an engaging space for debate on emerging research opportunities and the future directions of food security and modern aquaculture. The event was held with strong attendance from academic staff and students.
