The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters USB prepared a big celebration of the World Water Day for this year's March.
The first event associated with the Water Day was the World water run, so-called “FROVběh”, which took place from 16th to 22nd March 2023. As a faculty, we participated in this global challenge for the third time and thus supported not only healthy movement, but also the spread important information about the state of water on the planet. This year, as a team, we ran and covered the planned 400 km, and we can be proud of the involvement of not only our employees, but also others from the general public.
The second event was the Water Day celebration itself on Friday 24th March 2023, which was attended by approximately 150 people. A beautiful and rich program for families with children was prepared in the entire area of the faculty educational centre MEVPIS Vodňany. Participants had the opportunity to walk through the wetland with dry feet, attract crakes, feed a Drosera rotundifolia, help a beaver with construction, run away from “Jóžin” or save “Bludička”. It was also possible to caress snakes that students of the Secondary Fishing School and the VOŠ VHE Vodňany came to show, look into the microscopic world, make own frogs, or just have a coffee or a dessert from the Cafe and Tea House U Lípy and view art works of students of the ZUŠ Vodňany under the leadership of Gabriela Valentová. The event was held with the support of the EEA and Norway funds, the CZ_ENVIRONMENT program within the project: “TO DISCOVER AND PROTECT: Endangered worlds of water ecosystem and its biodiversity – No. 3201400019“.
Both events were very successful. Hereby, we would like to thank the employees and friendly organizations for their help in the preparation and running of the events, and all the visitors and people involved in the "run for water" for their participation. We will look forward to seeing you again next time, for example during the Vodňany Fishing Days 18th–20th May 2023.
