The international conference RETASTE 2026 – Rethink Food Resources, Losses, and Waste took place in Rethymno, Crete, Greece, from 16 to 18 September 2026. Focusing on sustainable resource utilisation, food waste reduction, and the circular economy, the conference brought together researchers and experts from various disciplines. The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, University of South Bohemia, was represented by Assoc. Prof. Jan Mráz, Ph.D. and Ing. Radek Gebauer, Ph.D. from the Institute of Aquaculture and Protection of Waters.

Jan Mráz presented Circular Valorisation of Freshwater Fish Processing Side-Streams into Child- and Adult-Accepted Food Products: From School Catering to Retail Markets, focusing on transforming freshwater fish processing by-products into nutritious food products suitable for school catering and retail consumers.

Radek Gebauer delivered Transforming Aquaculture Sludge into Commercial Fertiliser Products: Economic and Agronomic Validation, addressing the conversion of sludge from recirculating aquaculture systems into valuable fertilisers and evaluating their agronomic performance and economic feasibility.

Both presentations highlighted opportunities to improve resource efficiency and nutrient recycling in aquaculture. The conference also provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and future international research collaboration.
