Sustainable Use of Fish By-Products: FFPW USB Develops a New Dog Food

A research team from the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters at the University of South Bohemia has developed an innovative technology for producing sterilized fish sausages for dogs using fish by-products that would otherwise be discarded as waste. In collaboration with Tilapia s.r.o. and Kateřinský dvůr s.r.o., the team successfully validated the production process under real operating conditions.

The resulting dog food combines fish by-products with oat flakes and locally sourced vegetables. Testing confirmed its high nutritional value, microbiological safety, and long shelf life while meeting the requirements of European legislation for canned pet food. The technology also offers significant economic and environmental benefits by reducing the amount of biological waste and creating a value-added product.

The solution is primarily intended for small and medium-sized enterprises involved in fish farming, fish processing, or feed production and is ready for practical implementation.

For more detailed information, please refer to the technology description available via the link provided here.
