Collaboration of FFPW USB/CENAKVA and BOKU Vienna

During the business trip to Vienna on 26–27 March 2026, representatives of FROV USB/CENAKVA participated in the first meeting of KIC‑WATER partners, held at the BOKU Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory. The meeting, led by Christoph Hauer and Norbert Kreuzinger, focused on presenting the organizational structure of KIC‑WATER, the planned activities for 2026, and opportunities for active involvement of individual partners. CENAKVA introduced its expertise and interest in contributing to the upcoming activities, and an open discussion followed with other participants regarding possibilities for future collaboration. On the following day, a scheduled meeting with Prof. Thomas Hein took place at the BOKU Institute of Hydrobiology and Aquatic Ecosystem Management. This meeting served as an initial step in developing cooperation within DANUBIUS ERIC, emphasizing opportunities for joint projects, research activities, and the preparation of a future workshop where the capacities and research focus of both institutions will be presented in greater detail.

Ten students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters successfully defended their doctoral dissertations between September 16 and 18, 2025.

The topics of their research were not only of high quality and valuable for the advancement of scientific knowledge in their respective fields, but also aligned with the objectives and principles of DANUBIUS-RI.

Ve dnech 16., 17. a 18. 9. 2025 proběhly obhajoby disertačních prací. Všem třem novým doktorům studijního programu Ochrana vodních ekosystémů  a všem sedmi novým doktorům studijního programu Rybářství gratulujeme.

Témata jejich výzkumů byla nejen vysoce kvalitní a přínosná pro rozvoj vědeckého poznání v daných oblastech, ale také v souladu s cíli a principy Danubius-RI – evropské výzkumné infrastruktury podporující interdisciplinární studium říčních a deltových systémů, jejich ekologie, udržitelného řízení a dopadů klimatických změn.

On August 24–25, 2026, a joint scientific meeting was held at the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, University of South Bohemia in Vodňany (FFPW USB), featuring a team of leading researchers from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), led by Prof. Thomas Hein.

The goal of the two-day meeting was to present the current research topics of both institutions, share expertise in hydrobiology, aquatic ecosystem conservation, and aquaculture, and explore new opportunities for future scientific collaboration—including within the DANUBIUS-ERIC international research infrastructure (primarily linked to the Supersite Upper Danube Austria).

The opening day commenced with a welcome by the Dean of the faculty, Prof. Tomáš Policar, who introduced the structure, mission, and key priorities of FFPW USB to the Austrian guests. Prof. Vladimír Žlábek followed with a presentation of the CENAKVA international research center. In the subsequent session, the heads of individual research programs outlined their main focus areas and findings to the BOKU colleagues.

The second day featured presentations by the Viennese team from the Institute of Hydrobiology and Aquatic Ecosystem Management (IHG, BOKU), who highlighted their key projects and research agendas.

The final open discussion confirmed a substantial overlap in research interests, alongside strong potential for joint international projects.

V pátek 18. září 2026 proběhl v přednáškovém sále R1 Fakulty rybářství a ochrany vod JU další ze série oblíbených lunch seminářů centra CENAKVA. Vzácným hostem byla mezinárodně uznávaná vědkyně Prof. Juliane Hollender ze švýcarského institutu Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology).

Ve své přednášce s názvem „Internal concentrations as a link between exposure and effects of organic contaminants in aquatic organisms“ se zaměřila na problematiku přítomnosti pesticidů a léčiv u vodních bezobratlých. Účastníkům představila výsledky terénních i laboratorních výzkumů, které propojují dynamiku expozice v řekách s vnitřními koncentracemi polutantů v tělech organismů. Pozornost věnovala také toxikokinetickému modelování, identifikaci metabolitů a konkrétním dopadům těchto látek na vodní ekosystémy.

Přednáška přilákala řadu kolegů i studentů a v neformální atmosféře lunch semináře přinesla bohatou diskusi o osudu organických kontaminantů ve vodním prostředí.

On Friday, September 18, 2026, lecture hall R1 of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, University of South Bohemia, hosted another in the popular series of CENAKVA centre lunch seminars. The distinguished guest was the internationally renowned scientist Prof. Juliane Hollender from the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag).

In her lecture titled "Internal concentrations as a link between exposure and effects of organic contaminants in aquatic organisms," she focused on the presence of pesticides and pharmaceuticals in aquatic invertebrates. She presented both field and laboratory research findings linking river exposure dynamics to internal pollutant concentrations within organisms. Special attention was also paid to toxicokinetic modelling, metabolite identification, and the specific impacts of these substances on aquatic ecosystems.

The lecture attracted numerous colleagues and students, sparking an engaging discussion on the fate of organic contaminants in the aquatic environment within the seminar's informal setting.

Ve dnech 24.–25. srpna 2026 proběhlo na Fakultě rybářství a ochrany vod Jihočeské univerzity ve Vodňanech společné vědecké setkání s týmem předních výzkumníků z vídeňské University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) pod vedením prof. Thomase Heina.

Cílem dvoudenního setkání bylo představit aktuální výzkumná témata obou institucí, sdílet zkušenosti z oblasti hydrobiologie, ochrany vodních ekosystémů a akvakultury a otevřít nové možnosti pro budoucí vědecko-výzkumnou spolupráci – mimo jiné v rámci mezinárodní výzkumné infrastruktury DANUBIUS-ERIC (především ve vazbě na lokalitu Supersite Upper Danube Austria).

Úvodní den setkání zahájil děkan fakulty prof. Tomáš Policar, který rakouským hostům představil strukturu, poslání a klíčové priority FROV JU. Na něj navázal prof. Vladimír Žlábek s prezentací mezinárodního výzkumného centra CENAKVA.

V další části programu vedoucí jednotlivých výzkumných programů seznámili kolegy z BOKU s hlavními směry a výsledky své práce.

Druhý den setkání patřil prezentacím vídeňských kolegů z Institute of Hydrobiology and Aquatic Ecosystem Management (IHG, BOKU), kteří představili své klíčové projekty a výzkumné agendy.

Závěrečná otevřená diskuze potvrdila značný překryv výzkumných témat a velký potenciál pro přípravu společných mezinárodních projektů.

Spolupráce FROV JU/CENAKVA a BOKU Vídeň

Během služební cesty do Vídně ve dnech 26.–27. března 2026 se zástupci zástupce FROV JU/CENAKVA zúčastnili prvního setkání partnerů KIC‑WATER, které proběhlo v prostorách BOKU Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory. Jednání vedené Christoph​em Hauerem a Norbertem Kreuzingerem bylo zaměřeno na představení organizační struktury KIC‑WATER, plánovaných aktivit pro rok 2026 a možností aktivního zapojení jednotlivých partnerů. CENAKVA prezentovala své odborné kapacity a zájem o účast v připravovaných aktivitách, přičemž proběhla i otevřená diskuse s ostatními účastníky o možnostech budoucí spolupráce. Následující den se uskutečnila plánovaná schůzka s prof. Thomasem Heinem na Institutu hydrobiologie a managementu vodních ekosystémů BOKU. Setkání sloužilo jako úvodní krok k rozvoji spolupráce v rámci DANUBIUS ERIC, s důrazem na možnosti společných projektů, výzkumných aktivit a přípravu budoucího workshopu, kde budou detailněji představeny kapacity a výzkumné směry obou institucí.
