From 1.11.2021 to 28.02.2022, I visited Senckenberg Research Institute in Gelnhausen (Germany). During my internship I development several projects of my thesis, I used a recently collected riverine macroinvertebrate time-series database. Using this database, I investigate the invasion dynamics of Dikerogammarus villosus, the trends and impacts of alien crustaceans in recipient ecosystems, the dominance of Ponto-Caspian species in Europe and the invasion impacts and dynamics of Potamopyrgus antipodarumin Europe. In addition, I participate in two workshops organized by the host institute, (i) Functions and Loops in R and (ii) Functional metrics for the analysis of communities. Lastly, I would like to thank the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters and ERASMUS project for financially supporting my internship.

The training of six months under the supervision of Dr. Sebastian Brachs from Charite University Medicine was successfully completed. During this training, I learned the molecular techniques required to understand the involvement of Apoptosis during fish oocyte ageing. I performed experiments using western blotting, qRT PCR, and microscopy as per our discussion with the supervisor in the host institution. I performed experiments and analysed and processed the obtained data on my own samples. The results will be used as a part of my PhD study thesis. This stay also helped me to learn more about the importance and ways of communicating scientific results within the scientific communities for a broader public audience. 

On 5 May 2022, I attended the meeting of the Steering Committee Aquaculture Europe 2023 conference which will be held in Vienna in September 2023. The preparatory meeting discussed current issues and tasks necessary for its successful organisation.

On 12-18 October 2023, we visited colleagues from Umeå University. The topic of the visit was cooperation on the project "BIOCIDE: Antibacterial biocides in the water cycle – an integrated approach to assess and manage risks for antibiotic resistance development". In addition to discussing the results and joint outputs from the project, we inspected the facilities not only of Umeå University but also of the neighboring SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Science). Two of us took part in the trip to Sweden - Roman Grabic and Helena Švecová.

Vladimír Žlábek, reprezentující Fakultu rybářství a ochrany vod JU a výzkumné centrum CENAKVA, se účastnil první zemědělsko-podnikatelské mise nového Ministra zemědělství ČR. Mise směrovaná do Kazachstánu a Uzbekistánu se zúčastnilo celkem 44 členů delegace.

Kazachstán a Uzbekistán s bohatými vodními zdroji májí obrovský potenciál v oblasti akvakultury. S rozrůstajícím se zájmem o rybářství a zajištěním potravní soběstačnosti se zde nabízí příležitosti pro rozvoj moderních akvakulturních projektů a akademické spolupráce v oblasti vzdělávání odborníků pro rybářství, akvakulturu a ochranu vod.

V průběhu intenzivního programu se konala tři česko-kazašská a jedno česko-uzbecké podnikatelské fórum a následná B2B jednání s kazašskými a uzbeckými partnery. V rámci podnikatelské mise měl Vladimír Žlábek příležitost k jednání s místními zástupci zemědělského a akademického sektoru v obou zemích. Ministr zemědělství ČR Marek Výborný při jednáních představil připravenost Jihočeské univerzity v Českých Budějovicích spolupracovat v regionu v oblasti rozvoje zemědělství se zaměřením na rybářství, výzkum udržitelných akvakulturních technologií a ochranu vodních zdrojů prostřednictvím výzkumných projektů a akademické spolupráce.

On 7/14/2022, I and Prof. Dalibor Štys and Dr. Kirill Lonhus visited Synchronics Engineering in Heidenreichstein, Austria. The goal of the trip was to take over the camera spectrophotometer developed in cooperation with our institute and to discuss the possibility of manufacturing other pieces of it.

The active participation of members of the tissue culture laboratory (J. Bumba, P. Tláskalová, Š. Beranová) at the interdisciplinary conference entitled "Laboratory and clinical aspects of regenerative medicine", which was held at the Galant Hotel in Mikulov on December 8 - 9, 2022, helped to gain the latest information in the field through lectures and case studies of leading experts. Our paper entitled "Autologous Dentin - Regenerative Material of Dental Implantology" attracted the attention of several participants. The social program subsequently provided space for interdisciplinary discussion and the establishment of new contacts.

On 12 December, D. Štys, R. Štysová and J. Bumba took part in the opening ceremony of the Interreg Austria – Czechia 2021-2027 program in the Austrian town of Retz. We met with foreign partners and discussed possible further cooperation on cross-border projects.

Renata Rychtáriková, Dalibor Štys (FROV JČU), Patricia Engel (restorer of works of art from the Danube University in Krems) and Harald Erhl (curator of art collections in the Austrian monastery of St. Florian) discussed the content of the Interreg AT-CZ project for Priority 3 of the new program period 2021−2027.

On 17. 7. 2023, Dalibor Štys, Renata Štysová and Kirill Lonhus visited Technopol Ecoplus and the Danube Business Park in Krems. We discussed the conditions for creating a microscope start-up in Krems, Austria, with Mr. Harald Leiter, director of Technopark, Ms. Verena Ossmann, health technology manager, Mr. Slavisa Milanovic, Ecoplus investment project manager, and Mr. Roland Zellhofer, director of the Danube Business Park. The conditions offered by them, including the rental of production premises, are very favorable for us.

On Thursday, May 19, 2022, we (Ing. Jakub Bumba, Ing. Renata Štysová) took part in the Czech-Austrian workshop "Innovation and Research" in Linz. The aim of the workshop was to present changes in the tender documentation of the Interreg project in the new programming period 2021-2027. We presented two project intents (use of bioscaffolds in regenerative medicine; quality control of original and renovated art works and digitization of art). Tthe workshop was inspiring for us from the point of view of project intents and we got new contacts for other possible cooperations.

On 26-29. 4. 2022 we (Prof. Dalibor Štys, Dr. Renata Rychtáriková and Dr. Kirill Lonhus) attended the Laser World of Photonics 2022 trade fair in Munich, Germany. We visited several exhibitors, the most beneficial of which was communication with Ximea (a camera producer, DE) and Aventes (a spectrophotometer producer, NL) about the possibilities of commercializing our research results. On Wednesday, April 27, we were present at a Czech-German workshop organized by the Czech Optical Cluster and the German organization Photonics Hub. Here Prof. Štys briefly presented the results of our research group in the field of microscopy and spectrophotometry.

Dalibor Štys, Renata Štysová Rychtáriková and Kirill Lonhus took part in a business trip to Vienna’s high-tech incubator INiTS to present our Visible Truth project on light microscopes for biology and industry on 13th July 2023. Our project advanced from the previous semi-final round held to the final round of selecting projects for incubation on 28th June 2023. We defended our project in front of other members of the incubator. We already know that our project was unfortunately not selected for incubation.

Vladimír Žlábek, representing the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters USB and the CENAKVA Research Center, participated in the first agricultural-business mission of the new Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. This mission, directed to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, was attended by a total of 44 delegation members.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, with their abundant water resources, have great potential in the field of aquaculture. With a growing interest in fisheries and ensuring food self-sufficiency, there are opportunities for the development of modern aquaculture projects and academic cooperation in the education of experts in fisheries, aquaculture, and water protection.

During the intensive program, three Czech-Kazakh and one Czech-Uzbek business forums took place, followed by B2B negotiations with Kazakh and Uzbek partners. As part of the business mission, Vladimír Žlábek had the opportunity to engage in discussions with local representatives of the agricultural and academic sectors in both countries. Czech Minister of Agriculture, Marek Výborný, highlighted the willingness of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice to collaborate in the region in the development of agriculture, with a focus on fisheries, sustainable aquaculture technology research, and water resource protection through research projects and academic cooperation.

Mezi 12. a 26. listopadem 2021 jsem podnikla služební cestu do IMR - Institute of Marine Research v Bergenu (Havforskningsinstituttet), kde jsem v letech 2017 až 2020 pracovala na projektu „Virgin salmon“ jako postdoktorand na katedře reprodukce a vývoje. Zatím plodná (F0) populace Crispant dnd KO, kterou jsem vytvořila pro projekt Virgin salmon, konečně dosáhla fáze rozmnožování. Proto mohly být odebrány vzorky zárodečných buněk (jikry, spermie), následně použité pro mutační a kvalitativní analýzy. Nejvhodnější rodiče, určeni podle jejich genotypů, byly oplozeni. Do oplozené skupiny (F1) jsem mikroinjikovala mRNA dnd, abych zachovala zárodečné buňky nesoucí znak sterility, jako například mutaci ztráty funkce dnd. Po skončení všech experimentů jsme vyhodnotili data a nadcházející výsledky, abychom mohli prezentovat druhý článek, vázající se na tento projekt. Určili jsme pracovní plán spolu s dalšími kroky a termínem odevzdání článku. Všechny aktuální výsledky projektu byly prezentovány na poradě katedry dne 25. listopadu. Projednali jsme také nový projektový záměr a to pokračovat ve spolupráci a v únoru 2022 předložit žádost o Norský grant.

Absolvovala jsem tříměsíční stáž na Biotechnické fakultě Univerzity v Lublani (BF-UL) od 9. února do 12. května 2023. Cílem stáže bylo získat zkušenosti s pokročilými biotechnickými a proteomickými technikami. Během svého pobytu na BF-UL jsem se naučila několik metod pro charakterizaci aktivity mikrobiálních proteáz (fenotypový screening, např. „čisté zóny na agarových plotnách“, metoda azokaseinu) a molekulární (PCR amplifikace vybraných genů) a korelaci výsledků získaných pro vybrané kmeny. Tyto dovednosti byly použity pro hodnocení kvality a trvanlivosti ryb nebo rybích produktů v potravinovém modelu (homogenát masa kapra obecného) a výsledky byly vyhodnoceny pomocí profesionálního softwaru. Chtěla bych poděkovat projektu Jihočeské univerzity a grantu ERASMUS⁺ za financování mého pobytu ve Slovinsku.

Od 27. do 29. září 2023 jsem se zúčastnila zahajovacího sympozia centra Maxe Rubnera pro kardiovaskulární onemocnění 2023 v Berlíně v Německu. Tohoto sympozia se zúčastnilo mnoho delegátů, vědeckých výzkumníků a začínajících badatelů a podělili se o své poznatky a výsledky výzkumu. Svou výzkumnou práci s názvem „Zapojení apoptózy během in vitro postovulačního stárnutí oocytů u kapra obecného Cyprinus carpio“ jsem prezentovala v posterové sekci sympozia. Nejzajímavější částí konference bylo poznání faktů o Hansi Krebsovi – objeviteli Krebsova cyklu prostřednictvím jeho spolužáka. Ráda bych poděkovala za finanční podporu RVO VURH Laboratore (LIA), která mi umožnila se tohoto sympozia zúčastnit.

Vědci a Ph.D. studenti z Laboratoře fyziologie reprodukceLaboratoře intenzivní akvakultury, Laboratoře zárodečných buněk a Laboratoře molekulární, buněčné a kvantitativní genetiky se ve dnech 20.–23. září 2022 zúčastnili konference 8^th International Workshop on the Biology of Fish Gametes. Této konference se zúčastnilo mnoho delegátů, vědeckých výzkumníků a začínajících badatelů a podělili se o své znalosti a výzkumné poznatky v oblasti biologie rybích gamet prostřednictvím ústních a posterových prezentací. Dva Ph.D. studenti naší fakulty, Mgr. Rigolin Nayak a M.Sc. Essaikiammal Sodalai Muthu Konar, získali první ceny v ústních a posterových prezentacích. Gratulujeme jim!

Pro všechny studenty byla uspořádána přátelská akce nazvaná „Student's Reception“, kde mohli diskutovat o svém výzkumu. Exkurze na hrad Malbork, po níž následovala slavnostní večeře a středověká hudba, učinila výlet ještě zábavnějším.

The one-month research stay of Dr. Deepali Rahi Roy as a guest scientist at Central Fisheries Research Institute (CFRI) Trabzon, Turkey was funded by TUBITAK project within the scope of the “Scientist Support Program” and PPSR program by FFPW JU. The project entitled “Cypermethrin induced damages to the turbot (Scophthalmus maximus, Linnaeus, 1758) sperm: A bioenergetics perspective” was accomplished in collaboration with CFRI along with Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon Turkey.
